taking the bull by the horns and the boar by the tusks!!
« on: June 05, 2010, 09:52:54 pm »
Funny how things fall into place- sometimes so quickly that it takes your breath away! Thats it, i have gone from wondering what type of pigs to get, and asking lots of questions, to now being the expectant owner of two Berkshire weaners.... all in one day!!!

actually there has been a lot of thought and internal conversations going on for months, but that doesnt make a good story!

Thanks for all your comments and advice! I also have a good friend who will keep a close eye on the piggies and my caring abilities. He will no doubt supervise all our preperations.

Now its get ready and then wait 6-8 weeks for the 'boys' to be ready to come to us. Cant wait. Hope they like apples, LOL.

Congratulations Emma  ;D I'm pleased you've gotten some boys sourced.
They'll love apples and if you get into the habit of hand feeding them the apples they'll be much tamer and easier to handle. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Congratulations, when I first thought about keeping pigs I went along to a farm shop and bought a shoulder of Berkshire pork and it was delicious. The same people sold me my first pigs they were Saddlebacks as they had no Berkshire weaners available at the time. Now its OSBs but may try for Berkshires next year.
Anyway you will have lots of fun with them and you can eat them at the end whats better than that!!!

proverbially speaking - been and gone...this wolf in sheeps clothing has all her eggs in one basket, is clucking like an old mother hen about how to catch the worm before the rest of the birds!!! You cant teach this old dog how to dance on a hot tin roof!!! thats all the animals covered, i think. but hey i am bouncing about like a spring lamb- i am so excited!!

LOL, Emma T
