ive been trying to find online how to register ourselves as goat keepers(defra website)
but cannot find out how!!
they told me on the phone that i had to do it on their website.
i want to get it done before our girls have any kids.
milly and molly have allready been tagged by previous owners.
any help and advice here will be appreciated as allways.

Sorry can't help - here in Scotland it's still done by 20th century method - good old telephone! Works a treat!

When you got Milly and Molly, you would send the movement sheet to your local animal health department at the council. I know our council do not inform DEFRA that you have the goats, not sure if thats the case with all. You are supposed to tell DEFRA that you have bought some goats. They send you a lot of info, and a big folder to list all your goats etc. in. Every year they do a survey of all the goats in the country and we fill a form in and send it back. All I have is a letter confiming I keep goats at this holding number.

I assume you will have a similar system in Wales.

as said i told them over the phone and the lady said i need to go online and register with defra.
but i cant seem to find it.
maybe they are just trying to catch me out

i know, i will ask me significant other to do it for me, beth will have done it in mins

Well, I never registered in line.

When the inspector man came, did he look at the goats as well as the pigs?

I did it over the phone. both DEFRA and trading standards/animal welfare. have been sent the book that you have to complete and keep but no movement forms or anything. faff isn't it? why can't anything be simple!!

Yes, you have to ask for movement sheets, although someone I got some goats from gave me some. She had been fortunate to acquire a full pad of them!!!

yep, we showed him the paper we recieved from previous owner, that was enough for him.
for future goats he said we need to be registered goat keepers to have flock/herd numbers,
that we new allready but as said we cant seem to find out how and we are not trying to dodge it.

Who was it you phoned was it your local animal health office,i say local ours is around 80 miles away,we just phone them and give our holding number and tell them what we need a herd number for the latest being sheep and they send out the confirmation and herd number and movement docs in the post.
You can find the list of animal health offices on defras website and just phone the nearest one to you.
