Best food for urgent weightloss
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:15:26 pm »
The dog in question is a FAT(but loved) Mongrel about the same size as a Cockerspaniel, due to his owners circumstances he is not getting enough exercise as he should. He has been cut back to one meal a day, but the food is not the best(Bakers), full of additives and other junk.

What foods are on the market designed for this purpose, or are proven to work. i was thinking along the lines of CJS complete, or the Arkwrights, Jameswell???? am i right in thinking of these   :dog:  :dog:

Thanks

CJS is extremely good, Hills is too but expensive.  James Wellbeloved is expensive too I think.  Possibly tehu all do a Senior light version.  I'll be out looking for some for Freckles tomorrow as she has put weight on too with being on cage rest for 2 months.

I own a horse tack shop and feed store and by far my bestseller in the dog food line is arkwights, 1 due to the fact that it is a working dog food and we have alot of them around here and 2 because for the price its a very good food.
I would def change from bakers to something else,Akrwrights is good so to are Skinners and Autarky.
I would always split between 2 feeds no matter how small they were.

Yes, that's fine, but when a dog is overweight it needs less calories like us.  CJS have a senior light, I think Hills do too.  But if not just use a normal kibble dog food (Anything EXCEPT Bakers) and use less of it, adding loads of chopped up veg to bulk it out.  That's what I'm going to do with Freckles. My dogs always have two meals.
