Red and whites are hyper!!!!! They are up all the time. I have a red and white that will run on the moor and bring every sheep back in a breath,but is too keen to pen and then a more sensible black and white takes over. Red and whites are well known to be over active too soon, many sheep folk wont even touch one. Do you see reds in dog trails??

 I have a black and White collie. He's 14 months with what sounds very similar to your dogs breathlessness problem. He's been chest xrayed and ecg's have been taken and he has been passed healthy thankfully. The ECG expert has said it may be a gene defect within collies. Supposedly it's quite a recent discovery. Hope this helps

Have either you or Forge checked the Kennel Club website for breed diseases?  Accredited Breeders have to do all the recommended health checks before breed with a dog or bitch.

As far as I can see the only recognised checks are for hip scoring and eye testing.  But the Breed Clubs may have other checks in the pipeline
