Ideas for gates in race/ pens
« on: August 18, 2016, 10:02:21 am »
I have been looking online re getting some type of gate to fit wth my lightweight hurdles, the options seem to be -
Hurdle with 1/3 gate in it
Guillotine type
Swing type
Shedding type( but probably too expensive)

I don't mind if I have to tie it to the hurdles but would rather it wasn't too heavy as I like to be able to move the hurdles/ pens to the sheep.

I just want something so I can easily separate sheep into field or pen.

At the moment I can only afford one.

Your ideas on what's most useful

I have a two-way shedding gate from Modulamb.  Works very well and there are plenty of other styles out there.  Not lightweight though.

Shedding gate is probably the most versatile if you can only afford one.

Cut a 4' or 5' hurdle in half vertically down the 'spike' side of the central vertical rod and use the half with the loops as a gate that will swing on an adjacent hurdle's spikes. Alternatively use them loop to loop and put a metal pin down both sets of loops. It works.
