hello everyone,
Our boar was out on hire doing some work and he left one of the sows in a bad way with his tusks, deep gashes on her legs and side, he was rough like this with our sow too throwing her round the place for ages leaving her really exhausted, im thinking he,s not worth keeping, or is this normal? he dosent get to many girls to cover and we only have one saddleback sow, he is four years old now im thinking of spiced sausages and slow roasting joints.anyone ever try a boar at this age.
        all the best conor

The point is if he is rough and damages sows whose skin is pretty tough, what could he do to you and your family.  There are plenty of good, gentle boars around.  Spicy sausages mmmmm

My boar is 20 months old, he is quite gentle with his ladies! nibbles their ears, hocks etc really chats them up even shares food!!! BUT once they are off heat he will not share food hence there has been some superficial ear cuts but nothing more sinister, all boars with tusks (even the soppy gentle boys) are a potential danger to us humans, even unintentionally we could get our legs gashed by him just brushing past, always be aware of this and avoid the head end where possible!!

Can you not cut the tusks back??

They are very dangerous things to have on a very large boar!

It'll depend on how well handled he is, as it's not a task taken lightly!
Good luck
