Talking Goat Language!

Rather strange thing to ask but do all goats like a chat?  ;D!!

Bryony the mummy goat is all the way across the other side of the garden, past the cow shed in a paddock (so quite a way off) but can see me when I open the back door to put the dog, washing out etc and as soon as I say anything like scream at motson our puppy not to eat the daffodils or call the kids in for tea.... she starts talking back, in fact when our vet came yesterday for the ponies I couldnt finish a conversation because every time  I finished a sentence the goat answered before the vet could. Is this normal? Have I completely lost the plot!!!!!! Particularly as I now talk back too her....it would be rude not to answer!!

I don't think you have lost the plot at all, probably she would talk to you if she saw you any how, without having to hear you. I have a few that are very chatty and others that just don't care. Blossom more often than not will talk to me if I call her name but she would be a dumb blonde if human.

I baaa back to mine all the time, only thing is you can never get the last 'word' in - they dont seem to tire of it as quickly as I do!!  my hubby caught me chatting with my 3 last night and he looked seriously worried!

wait til they're in season... its not "food" they'll ask for constantly then!!

I have whole conversations with all our animals, the goats especially.
I'm sure your o/h, kids, neighbours, passers-by, men in white coats, etc will soon accept that its fine for you to talk to the animals, and understand what they say in response!!

My GG is very chatty and always says "hello", even with a mouthful of grass (which sounds very funny). I always talk to them, even just passing by their field. The BT is a lot quieter, but the new girl (GG X AN) is also quite noisy, and sounds very similar to the GG.

But then I also say "hello" to the (piggie) boys and some of the sheep (the ones that have got names). Unfortunatley the hens usually just get shouted at, as they pop up where I really don't want them, like inside the garage, after all the door is sometimes open... or the veg garden/polytunnel...
