Oh this is awful, will he be able to milk goats? But yes, men and painkillers... not easy....

Beth what happened to the dog, was it one he knew? Please tell Alex we send our best wishes.

No, he didn't know the dog, he was just popping something through the door, and they had one of these letterboxes with a flap on both sides of the door, so he had to push through to get a leaflet through, and the dog just bit at his finger. The dog didn't even bark when Alex approached the door, so he didn't even know there was a dog there.

Nothing has happened to the dog yet, Alex doesn't know if he wants to report it or not. He doesn't want the dog put down unneccessarily. He's still to decide. My worry would be what if a child put its hand throught the letterbox and loses a hand to the dog in the future.
