much too cute for rats
« on: April 30, 2010, 04:06:38 pm »
I was hoping to give some of you a laugh..  My OH came in from the field this afternoon and said, "We've got some baby rats!"  My immediate response was to plan to get some poison.  He said, "No, you can't kill them, they're too cute"  I said rats are rats - I won't bash them with the spade, but I will get some poison, come on you have to be practical.  My OH is an ex-lorry driver, big and butch as you like, I couldn't believe he was being so soppy!  He insisted I come and have a look before I "murdered" them.  Anyway... no long tails..... ears too big... strange grey fur in the nest.... they were baby rabbits !!  Underneath the chicken coop, of course you assume they are rats - I am pleased because this hopefully proves there are no rats under there ?  What do you think ?  :D

My gut instinct is that if there were rats they'd have taken the baby bunnies away, so think you're right - no rats  ;D
Lucky you went to look before getting the poison  :o

mmm.....if my farm cats were anywhere near your shed, those baby bunnies would be history.  Yesterday, one of them appeared with a young squirrel, and ate it - except the tail.  A few minutes later she came with a large mouse as well.

I would say rats would have a go at eating young rabbits if there were any rats around.

Yup, definitely no rats, and my cat would have had the bunnies for breakfast and the rats for dinner - tail and all!  He's done it before - right in front of my eyes while I was otherwise occupied on the phone ::)
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

I woke up a couple of months ago because there was movement at my feet. Then I heard crunching. "Oh dear" I thought "One of the cats has a mouse. Never mind it will soon eat it."
Well, the crunching went on and on ..... and on. So I put the light on.
There was Archie one of my ginger boys, merrily chewing into a rabbit's skull. There were rabbit brains all over the white duvet cover.
I said to my husband "Archie's eating a rabbit on the bed" to which his response was "Oh well, you will have cats. Put the light off."
 :D :D :D

A few weeks ago while I was sleeping a cat jumped on my bed and I felt a plop on my chest. I thought I must be dreaming as the cats cant get into the bedroom but I shook the covers just in case and heard a second plop on the floor. I got up and the bedroom door was open and a half chewed mouse on the floor. :o
