« on: March 24, 2016, 01:13:58 pm »
Thinking of buying a Ultrasonic Fox Deterrent, suppose for a little peace of mind..........however there are so many on the market.

Anybody got any thoughts on them.

Many thanks

There's a fox deterrent light that operates intermittently through hours of darkness that's reckoned to be very effective.  Can't remember what it's called, possibly developed in New Zealand ....?

these (there is a UK distributor), my farmer neighbour swears they helped prevent lambing losses last year but when I last suggested them I got stick on here. He has six. I've seen them, they are well built, weatherproof, robust and have variable settings.

electric netting is way more effective (mains powered)... as is having your chicken run next to the pig pens....

When we last had snow I followed the fox's track through several of our pig pens on his way to see the chickens and ducks. Shortly after that we lost all our ducks and most of our chickens to foxes despite them being surrounded by pigs. Don't rely on pigs as a deterrent.
