Do I have to stop all movement of stock after buying lambs? With pigs its 20 days, nothing in or out of the farm so is it similar with sheep?

I just mentioned this on another thread related to this, ummm i seem to remember (dont quote me on that) but we ve been told 5 days, ask animal health. or someone else on here will clarify.

It is 6 "clear" days - ie 8 days stand still - I ended up with a DEFRA audit last year after they advised me I was ok to move animals - thankfully they had the conversation recorded to their fault.

The exact wording is as follows:

Any movement of livestock onto a holding imposes a standstill period - either 6 or 20 clear days (not including the day of movement on or off).
Moving sheep, goats, cattle onton a holding will trigger a six day standstill on sheep, goats, cattle and pigs.
Moving pigs onto a holding will trigger a 20 day standstill on pigs and a 6 day standstill on sheep, goats and cattle.
Exemptions:
Movement direct to slaughter
Movement to slaughter collection centre
Movement to dedicated slaughter market
Movement to shows or breeding animals using an approved isolation facility.

the 20 day stand still quoted on pigs, does this include incoming stock only...
so say i bouth 20 weaners at a market today , could i buy another 20 tommorrow, i understand the 20 days for stock leaving the farm but not entering, hope some one can help

You can keep on filling up until you have not space left! But each new addition restarts the 20 days...

the guidelines we use are those given by our local mart.

You can move sheep off your land on consecutive days if you wish.

You MUST NOT move animals off your land for a period of 6 days from the day after you bring sheep onto your holding (if you bring sheep onto your holding on Tuesday you cannot move sheep off your holding until the following Tuesday)

Standstill only applies when you move sheep ONTO your holding

movement licences and recording always applies

I havent moved any sheep since 1st January so this may have changed but have seen no documentation telling me any different

If I'm wrong please put me right before 9th June as thats when we will be moving our next sheep

Yes the word standstill is quite misleading, as it really only applies to moving stock OFF the holding. Here in Scotland it is 13 days for all except pigs, and it is 21 days for pigs.

Worked it all out last autumn when I tried to get two female goats to stud at around the same time.... One had to go boarding for over two weeks and managed to get the other one off to her "date" a couple of days after first one had gone on her holidays... but only managed it with both of them sponged...
