Pitstop ( Shetland Pony ) seems to be bad with hay mites, rubbing his face all the time. His body is clipped. He is grey. Sunshine who is black does not seem to be bad at all. I have to keep well covered as I get affected with the wee horrors. I have washed Pitstop face with a special shampoo but not much help. any idea what would work.

Try fly/midge repellant or permethrin in some form. My Cleveland Bay had the same problem one year and ended up with a face that looked like a moth-eaten rug.

Pig oil and sulphur.
Or Ivomec pour on (or generic equivalent), at twice the cattle rate. This will also worm your pony.

This is last years hay. I never give the Shetlands new hay if I can help it. I bought Repel and that seems to be working thank goodness. Hay mites left me with damaged skin on my legs and just above my eyes.
