Anyone Use Button Tags?
« on: December 06, 2015, 05:12:32 pm »
Need to order more tags and fed up with them getting torn out every time a Badger Face sticks her head through the fence, even though I split them.  I use button tags on the pigs and they stay in so just wondering about the Allflex ones (which also seem to be stocked by Fearing although the brand isn't stated).

When I started I purchased some whether to grow on that cam with button tags, none came out in the 12 months till they went away (shetlands take longer)

My breeding ewes have regular tags and are champions at losing them...

I purchased button tags for all my lambs and so far haven't lost a single tag from them either...

Sorry can't remember make either...

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Put maybe 400 in, in 2008  lost about 2% over the years torn out ,  I put them in the middle of the ear as near the head as I can .   Only down side is they do rub the top of the ear under the tag in adults ( or maybe they have made the pins longer now )

I have been using allflex button tags for the last couple of years and find them better than the the round the ear type. Also a good personal service ordered last lot at the Royal Highland Show arrived within two days. Also reps at the  Scottish Smallholders festival.

I have used caisley button tags with a flag tag behind.  No losses so far but then not many sheep.
