Should I plant the onions?
« on: December 10, 2015, 10:48:25 pm »
I still have a bag of autumn planting onions I haven't had chance to plant. Not sure if I should now hold off til spring in case they rot or to go for it and just plant them? Thoughts?  ???

Same here - I will plant mine.  Overwintering onions are different from spring planting, so no point in keeping them over til spring.   It's garlic you can plant either in autumn or spring.

You might need to push them down again if frost raises them before they've got a good root system.

Because of it being so warm & wet I've decided to not do any over wintering of leeks , onions or garlic this year as both conditions seem to lead to lots of them bolting around mid march next year .
T'would be interesting to have follow up posts by you guys & gals to this thread around the middle of May next year to see if my thoughts are sound or stupid .

Well I did go and plant mine and they have started growing, I do hope it doesn't lead to bolting, but let's wait and see

If they look like bolting (and some may) pull and use them.
