Hi guys,

I'm Rich (in name only I'm afraid)

I am currently in the army and cant wait until i can afford to leave and follow the dream of self sufficiency.  I am making it my mission to learn as much as possible in the mean time so when i come to do it i shall have all the knowledge i require.  To that end i have joined your forum.

My plans are, 4 acres, 2 sows, 1 jersey, a dozen chickens, small fruit orchard, power generation from wind / water, a water well with the water pumped by sail windmall for plant irrigation / animal hydration.  Obviously i don't expect to achieve this all at once but over many many years.

Any way, i am rabbiting......... Hello!!

Hello Rich!!

Sounds good to me what you are hoping to achieve - and I hope you manage it.  I am interested in wind power, and would love to make use of the big river at the bottom of our field too, as a  source of power.

Hello!

We are in central Scotland with just over an acre of land and lots of goats.

Sounds like you have great plans.

Hi and welcome.  If you are planning to keep pigs get as much land as you can.  Pigs are addictive.

Hi Rich and welcome from a very wet Scottish Borders I looked into wind power last year but was quoted £14,000 so reluctantly had to give it a miss.

Hello from me in South Lanarkshire
I'd also echo the view of getting as much land as you can afford/find. You'll always be able to find something 4 legged to fill it  ;)
Look forward to hearing how your plans are developing.
