Not yet  ;) but I'll be really interested to find out how you get on with them.
I'd love to get wild boar to run in our woods, but after lots of research decided that all the 'dangerous animal licence' regs put me off - the iron age seems to be the next best thing. So looking forward to hearing your experiences  ;D

I have had a litter or iron age.  They were very skittish, as they got older they tended to bite.  Our electric fencing was not nearly man enough to keep them in.  My one and only never to be repeated experience, but then I am a little on the old side for chasing Tigger on speed!!!  Back to the sedate GOS for me.  Dont be put off they were the out of this world eating experience.

The time between tasting that meat and mangalitsa meat was too long to do a proper taste test, but would say Mangalitsa is very close.

I thought if you had a wild boar first cross with anything you had to have a wild animal license from your local authority. I looked into this and they have to inspect premises, often at your own cost.

Over here officially if your sow becomes pregnant to a sanglier its mandatory to destroy the litter at birth.

Well had them in the barn as I havent quite finished the fencing to the new plot. Phone call 2hours later from neighbour who had a iron age piglet under his arm!!!

Is  this a record for a great escape????

Oooooo let's hope it's not a sign of things to come  ;) time to break out the high security fencing  ;D

Wortle - about the wild animal licence, I'm not 100% certain, but I think that once the wild boar is 'diluted' through breeding (is that the right way to describe it ?) there's no need for the licence. But I could be talking out a hole in my head  ;D Like you I would have loved some wild boar but all the red tape just puts me off. I had hoped iron age pigs would have been an alternative, but after reading what Hilarysmum had to say I might just stick with some Tamworths instead (they're mad enough for me  ;))

Our boar George lasted 20 minutes and disappeared for exactly 2 months.   :)
