[Moleskins]

I know most of you have finished lambing, I haven't started yet.
I have 5 shearlings all scanned as having single lambs by my Ryeland ram who was in his first year. My dates led me to think we would be seeing lambs at the start of March. As yet ..... nothing.
The one shearling is looking extremely pregnant. I keep checking for 'signs' of of them going into labour but when I think aha tonights the night ..... you've guessed it ........ nothing.
So is there anything apart from, nesting, unusual bleating noises, wanting to be on it's own, swelling of the vagina that will indicate when I need to be especially vigilant.
As things are I'm getting more and more knackered with late nights and early mornings

Hi moleskin, we used to be very late lambing but now put the ram in earlier, one thing we have noticed is that the majority have lambed between 1.00am - 6.00am for some reason, no real concrete answer to time, some of our ryelands did show changes in behaviour others showed nothing at all. They usually wait until youve gone to bed and then start!

Missed Countryfile, waiting for the re run on BBC HD or for it to come onto the i player.
My ram was in very early as he was with them all the time but he seems to have taken
his time getting things right. As someone said in a long ago post on here, remember when
you were a teenager and how it took a lot of fumbling and so on before you got it right.

Mine have not appeared yet, but then by my dates they are not due until 2nd May. I had a good look at them last night and one is beginning to bag up, so i am thinking they will be earlier than 2nd May. So planning to move them into the field where I want them to lamb today.
The theory about them lambing in the early hours of the morning is that it gives the lamb a chance to be up and well fed to cope with the predators the following night. This apparently is especially true of native/rare breeds as it is a true survival tactic, great for the ewe and new lamb, but very tiring for us!

I am sure they will be along soon. Are you lambing in a field or in a barn?

mine was done to lamb thersday 5.15 first lamb thersday i naw have 22 all lamb out side .end off september ram went in
