What does the term "Collects" mean on a map? (magic-defra OS map in this case) I know it has something to do with water as it's in blue, like "Issues", "Spr" etc, but what exactly does it mean....?

I'd like to know what 'issues' are though too - apparently I have one or two, whilst my neighbours have got loads of them!!

Issues are where water comes out of the ground - I assume as "draining water" as opposed to a "spring".

I believe collects are a term for non permanent pondsor pools of water. Ie over run from flooding.

Looking at our maps it seems the issues run into troughs, so perhaps where water has been picked up by drain or pipe elsewhere and piped through for a field supply?

Collects and Issues are defined in https://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/files/os-mastermap-real-world-object-catalogue.pdf:

Collects: Where a bog or a marsh becomes a stream.
Issues: The source of a stream which is a natural emission from an agricultural drain, or where the stream re-emerges from underground.

We have many Issues, most of which are not mapped, at least on MAGIC! Fortunately most of the Collects are in the woodland. None of the Collects are mapped; but I know a bog when I drive into one!!
