Chickens and Squirrels ??
« on: June 06, 2008, 08:23:08 pm »
We have a moveable henhouse with permanent run attached and a temporary one we tie on to it every day.  The temporary run is chicken proof, however, this morning I spotted Mr Squirrel sitting on the fence nearby obviously eyeing up their grub and scheming a way to get at it and I'm not convinced the bit between the two runs is truly squirrel proof.   We used to have squirrels destroy bird feeders made of wire, how strong does mesh need to be to prevent a squirrel chewing its way through it ?  If it managed to get in to the run what is likely to happen ?!!  Would it actually harm the chickens ?  What if it gets in and cant get back out !!  We will be sorting out a more secure add on run soon.  Any comments welcome.
