Hebridean sheep society ear tag guns.
« on: September 13, 2015, 01:58:49 pm »
Hi
it is my first full year of keeping Hebridean sheep and will need to put in the tags next year for showing and selling.
I have had the tags for a while now and just looking online where to get the applicators and I couldn't find anywhere I could get a ketchum No.3 tagging gun.

Hi Thomas,

I have a spare "Ketchum Startag" applicator here (silver with red handles, but it doesn't seem to say anything else on it. It looks a bit like this one, with a long pin, though it's not identical:

It's currently in the scrap metal bin, so if you think you can use it, drop me a PM and I'll stick it in the post to you.

No, that's not the right applicator for the HSS tags. The tags are metal and need one part to be bent over the other once they're through the ear.

As Big Light says, apply directly to Ketchums.  They used to give the applicators away with your first order.  It's worth a try, but they'd stopped by the time we got ours.

An alternative would be for an ex-HSS member to pass on their unwanted applicator.

Fair enough.  If anybody wants it, let me know before I next go to the scrap man!   :)

Seems a shame to chuck them out - they look almost brand new.  Why not offer them on Marketplace?  :sheep: :sheep:

That's a stock photo Fleecewife. I'll take a pic when I get chance and post it in the swap shop though.

Yes, I am very disappointed.  I was hoping for a different story.  Possibly beginning with, "Sheep Breeder Soc President vows to eat tag guns if legislation is not changed by Christmas", or some such  :roflanim:

No, no, it's because Heb owners are such hardmen we eat ear tag applicators for breakfast  :hungry:

I'd like to see all ear tag applicators consigned to the compost, or other means of disposal
