new hay rack!!!
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:11:54 pm »
i set meslf a challenge a few days ago in making a hay rack for milly and molly,
well i made a manger, well they just kept knocking that over!!! and more interested in
the wood than the hay.
well this afternoon i made it before country file( no way was i missing it)
ell i got it made, i nailed two planks across the upright posts on the inside of the day shelter, one near the top, other near the bottom and one
in between the posts to hold the hay from falling on the floor.
then i got some ol sheep wire that was around the place cut it to size then nailed that on.
got the hay in and packed it well milly and molly went to town on the hay!! i just sat there with them so proud of meself hearing them
munch munch away. saved some pennies too. :goat:

The shed my Pygmys sleep in has a "bought" hay rack on the wall and quite often I go into the shed and one of them is standing in the rack and thinks nothing of it.

Hey, well done - you deserve to be proud of yourself for making that!!

Goats are inquisitive, and very destructive......anything put in their shed, is stood on, danced on, chewed if possible......even the kids do it!!

Go for it ...our Paddy will test drive your hay rack before you put it on sale :D

Just remember with goats, its got to be strong, but also safe.  Must be no way horns, hooves etc. can get caught in a rack, could have devasting consequences.  I think I would prefer one which would break easily under stress, so at least if a goat got caught, it could pull the rack off the wall.  Not that I have ever had one stuck .....but I know it happens.
