The Sheep Book for Smallholders - Tim Tyne
« on: August 11, 2015, 02:51:03 am »
I am relatively new to sheep, I bought 39 draught ewes (down to 28 with culls ) last year and now bought 42 more suffolk x mule hoggets this year and am very interested in sheep. Was looking for a book to read that is both very useful and practical for sheep management, yet is interesting to read from cover to cover. I am wondering if anyone here has this book from 2009 and if so would they recommend me to get it 6 years on from publication or is it outdated?

Definitely not outdated. Unless you know something the rest of us don't!

Superb book. Sheep haven't changed that much in six years  :)

You might have to wait a week or two to get hold of a copy though, since it's currently being reprinted. From another thread:

For anyone who's been having trouble getting hold of a copy of  The Sheep Book for Smallholders? - it's been temporarily out of print due to restructuring of the company that publishes it. However, it should be available again, in all the usual outlets, from early August.

I might buy this book too, its always good to learn more about the animals you're keeping ain't it?

I'm new to sheep. I've treated this book like a bible and it hasn't led me astray so far

Tim Tyne's book is excellent.  Another good one is The Sheep Keeper's Veterinary Handbook - Agnes Winter and Judith Charnley (both vets).
