linking different areas of electric fencing?
« on: March 16, 2010, 01:09:43 pm »
need advice on setting up electic fencing.

Going to have 200m of electrotape to fence off pony, two lots of either 50m netting or 3 strands of tape to enclose pigs  and possibly two strands around outside of chicken run to keep foxes away.

All of these areas are no more than 50m away from barn with mains electricity.

Do I just use a high voltage runout cable to join one fence to another or do I run a separate runout cable from the energiser in barn to each fence separately?

What about earthing stakes and how are they connected?. Do I have one close to the energiser in the barn or one at each fence close to where they are connected?

Don't want to waste money by buying unnecessary components.

Cheers.

Hello, the earthing stake should be at the energiser and watered when the ground is dry. The separate enclosures can be connected with whatever insulated wire or flex you have. The bigger the connecting wire diameter is the less the resistance there will be. Electricity is like water flowing through a hose the smaller the hose the less flow. As to weather to run separate connections. Its up to you, whatever way uses the least amount of cable runs is best either direct from the energiser or enclosure to enclosure. Then wait until it rains and listen out for short circiuts.
