Moulting already???
« on: July 30, 2015, 10:54:08 pm »
Hi all
Has anyone else's chucks started to moult yet?  One of my more determined broodys did last month now closely followed by a couple of others.  It looks as though they have had a pillow fight in the coop and Rosie my Australorp is now running around with a very bare bum.  There are no mites or lice to be seen and they have all been wormed.  I can't think of any other reason!  Laying has dropped to just 7 out of 20 but they are all healthy and happy - I'm just wondering if it is the weather.  The temperature up here in Caithness hasn't risen much above 13 or 14C for ages.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  Thanks  ???

I have one moulting now and one not long finished, just growing her feathers back now.  So no eggs from either for weeks.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

I have a few moulting, we're in the south and it's not exactly warm here either.

Summer? What summer? :(

I would put it down to the weather, like you say , we have had no' Summer'  sunshine up here in Caithness.
My greenhouse  is a sorry state  :-\  Poor chucks dont know what to be doing. Mine have stopped laying.
As for the docks ! If we could eat them l wouldnt need to shop !  Weird weather

Yes one of my bantams has been moulting, now the cockerel is loosing feathers fast. I'm in the south and we've had a lovely summer in North Dorset  :sunshine:
