As you know there was some doubt as to the sex of the very small kid.  I spoke with my local farmer and he said wait a few days, things may change.  I have looked every day, but still no definite sexing!!  Looked at lunchtime, and success - its a nanny!!!  The farmer came round this afternoon for a look.  He agreed, when I turned both kids tails up, there was no doubt over the big one, but like he said, the little one was definitely under developed in that department.  I put them down, and he said if the little one had a pee we woulld know .....well, it had some milk and then .....it peed!!!

So, we have two nanny kids after all.  And I can now name they Primrose and Poppy!!!!

Yay! Thats great, makes up a wee bit for the earlier kiddings not being so successful. Love the names to. Will you try milking Jasmine as well at some point?

Yes, Beth - she does seem to have a lot more milk that the nanny that kidded at Christmas, and hopefully, in a few weeks the grass will be through, so there should be enough for kids and some left for us.  I have always managed to get milk for us, even when they are feeding twins.  I know some people, once the kids are a few weeks old, shut them up at night away from the nanny, milk in the mornng then leave the kids with her all day, but I don't do that.

It will be nice to have goats milk again - I have an intolerence to cows milk, and loathe paying at the supermarket for goats milk.

I know the feeling Roxy, we bought a litre of goats milk the other day so we could keep Romily's milk for the kids, and its nowhere near as nice. Fortunately the kids are bigger now, and we going to start mixing in a 1/2 pint of dried milk into their feed to help Romily's milk go further. I just hope that Surf doesn't have 5 female kids, she's next to kid and she had triplet females last year.

So will you milk her twice a day then, or just once?

While the kids are on her, then I will only milk her once a day, but would normally milk twice.  The only thing is it all adds extra work to my already busy morning, on the days I work!!!

Pygmy kid must have weaned himself, or she has done it for him, cos I never see him take milk now- he is 10 weeks.  But his mum has never had much milk, so not worth milking her.  Having said that, he looks well!!!
