Dormant Lilies?

I love scented Lilies
been having a clear up outside and found a large tub, (my written) label said 'large cream scented'. nothing growing.
turned it out, very dry, slight damp near bottom, there are lily bulbs there, possibly smaller than originals, but firm and yellow, just nothing growing. tub has been watered (occasionaly), but now presume water ran straight through and I gave up when it appeared nothing was in there.
so - if  bulbs go into dormancy when left dry, how do I break that dormancy? had them sat in shallow damp potting compost but nothing happening, no new roots showing.
Any ideas please? they were beautiful, I would love to bring them back, suppose it will be too late for this year.

I'd leave them as they are this year and get them going for next.  Repot, new compost etc
You could lift them and keep them over winter in dry compost and then start them going next year.
