As for the vets advice. . . . .if I had a 5 month old pup and it only got out and about for two half our slots a day, I would consider it under stimulated and under exercise. They don't need to be running marathons, but they also won't learn anything sat in a crate!!!

Thats only recommended active exercise and doesn't count all sorts of brain games and pottering around - nothing about being in a crate :D Its not all or nothing

Please, please do not thrown sticks for dogs.
I knew this but under the "it'll never happen to me" thought, I used to and my girl impaled herself on one and have massive damage to her mouth. Pease don't wait to learn this lesson the hard way.

If the pup has only been out twice, how are you socialising her?

Over exercising puppies can seriously damage their joints as they are not fully developed.
Unfortunately they don't know this so rest periods do need to be enforced.

I used to let mine out for a couple of hrs to play, they usually went to sleep after about an hr and I used to sit on the front lawn with them rocking them to sleep. pretty silly I know. ;D ::)
