Just got 3 Pietrain x Saddleback weaners. First impression is they are meaty and ugly :D Anyone have experience of these guys? They are entire boars about 10 weeks and destined for the freezer.

Sorry to not have responded sooner but following a terrific thunder storm last Saturday we have been without a telephone and the computer(and in fact still are without a phone!!) Internet came back Wednesday but been bust catching up with many messages etc.

Good choice of pig especially the fact they are crosses, IMHO, good size and a good meat pig. UGLY never, sweet with prick up ears and those big eyes.

I would do the deed and get them 'done' as they will get quite testy with each other and you may find one becomes the weaker of the trio. Not everyone agrees with doing the deed and in some instances I'm not keen but with three boys it could be a wise move.

Please do get in touch if you need any advice and though not a mastermind will do what ever to assist.

Farmer Giles, Sorry for such a delay in posting (3 weeks plus :o) No excuses with thunderstorms. I see from my original post that I didn't mention that they were going in with 3 Oxford Sandies and 3 Middle White Xs all much of the same age. The Pietrains were pretty aggressive to start with (and still are a bit). They were the biggest, although now a MW has overtaken them. I can see what you are saying about their looks, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say, and I say ugly ;) I don't know who described the MIddle White to be "beautifully ugly", but I agree ;D As all 3 breeds are being treated the same, I doubt anyone will be able to identify them from their meat, but the Pietrains look like they will have plenty of it.
