We have blue skies here today but it is still very cold, although milder than it has been the last few days. Before I got the camera mum actually had her head cuddled in to her kids too which was lovely.

Just look at her wee face. Both these girls were seriously unwell 2 weeks ago, it's great to see them well, relaxed and happy.

Great pic James...pleased to say that my two pet goats (Jake & Kenco) have settled down very well at our new place...they have already found ways to escape their enclosure and can often be seen wondering the fields...but they always come home before night fall.

I had a phone call from a neighbour after we had been here a month to ask if I was missing any goats and sheep...he had spotted a bunch wondering in an adjacent field...I went to the top of our bank but couldn't see them...so I yelled " Jake, Kenco C'mon now"...a minute later they appeared from behind a hedgerow on the far side of the field and came trotting back with the seven sheep following behind...I opened the gate and they all returned to their enclosure. When I got back to the house my neighbour had left a message to say that in thirty years of farming he had never seen such obedience in any farm animals...it made his day. Its easy for us to forget just how close our relationship with our animals can become...what a privilege it is to be a smallholder.

Great story John. I think all my animals respond to my voice too, now I am not saying for a second that that means they would do as I asked!!! If the goats are miles off and I shout 9 out of 10 times they will come running out of nowhere and find me. The ducks too mostly come off the river if I shout on them. If my goose is somewhere out on the river and I shout he will answer me but no way will he come unless he wants to. My ponies are typica Shetlands so they don't give a monkey about me unless they see me carry a pale.
