Well we got 10 out of 24 eggs hatching. One of them had a gammy leg and could not feed so I have dispatched it.

The other 9 are fantastic and living in a box indoors with a nice warm terracotta lamp to cozy up to.

Need to build the outdoor housing soon........

Keep an eye on their feet, they have sticky poo that seems to glue itself to their toes if you are not careful it gets hard and then is almost impossible to get off without damaging their feet.

That happens with quail and other birds when the stocking density is too high and the  litter has been left too long without changing.

It just gets damp and sticky and clings to their toes, building up into large solid balls of muck.

Clean dry litter every week will stop it happening

Make sure the outdoor house in encased in small hole wire as rat will chew through wood to get to quail :-(. Maybe not straight away but they will find them....
