The Scottish Women's Rural Institute - often known as "The Rural". It's the Scottish equivalent of the WI.

I was, years ago.  Took my eldest ( 1yr old ) with me - middle of nowhere, OH working late and no baby sitter.  If the Rural wanted me they got both of us.  Brought the average age down   ;D

I have given talks/demos to local groups, but have avoided joining.  Everyone says I'd love it, but I wouldn't  :roflanim:

I am but have to admit to not being a very active member, inclined to give it a miss on cold wet nights and boring speakers!

I thought that it wasn't to be called 'The Rural' any longer, although every one will?

There is a move to drop the word "rural" from the title an an attempt to attract more members. There are sectors of the membership who aren't happy with this or the way it's been done.

To quote and ex-MP, it's like the night of the long sgian dubhs  :)
