Weight chart-meat Boers?
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:11:17 am »
Hi
I use a weight chart, ie measuring goats girth and using corresponding weight for worming etc.
I've read somewhere that this doesn't work for meat goats?
wanting to worm a couple post kidding
could anyone advise please?

The only charts I have seen have been for dairies, and I would have thought the chunkier meat goats have more meat around their rib cage...

I have invested in a weighing crate, and have found they loose 10 kgs or so without me noticing.... always have one or two surprises if I do a general weigh-in...

There is a chart in one of my goat books - I will try to remember to dig it out tonight - was quite accurate. Could you take her to vet and put on their scales?

Found something online which says girth x girth x length (shoulder to hips?)
wonder if someone with scales could check this out? may be useful to others.
I followed it for worming my boer, but didn't seem very much - 48kg up to my togg who is 68kg (But togg has put weight on since she kidded.)
