whats the laws on keeping pigs?
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:31:30 pm »
i have 10 acres of land, but my neighbours are horrible nasty people, they try and stop me doing everything, boundary disputes, planing permision to name but a few!  whats the score with getting some pigs? i have a cph number etc, have the pigs got to be a certain distance away from houses etc? its just my luck i would have to have planning permission for them!!! my neighbours will not be able to see where they are kept from they're property,

has anyone had problems from the local council?

anything will help!

kind regards

There, as I understand it, are no laws stopping you providing you get yourself a herd number too. It's a courtesey to say to your neighbours about pigs but if they are very negative then get the council animal welfare approval of the situation.
It would be a shame to get them and get attached to be told to get rid later!!
Good luck!!

That is the other side of the equation but it does not correlate to the initial posters circumstance 10 acres is a darn sight different to a suburban street. I would suggest you talk to them;and plan to put the pigs as far away from their property as is possible ;so they can't complain about smells etc.

Hi I have the same issues. Neighbours object to everything even me using my field gate for farm machinery as it goes past their windows. I only use the gate tops 12 times a year! I am getting 2 pigs on Saturday and I have advised my Lpa but confidently expect that they will kick up a fuss. All I could find was info that you need a cph and must keep records accurately. Other than that full on commercial pig farms should be 400 meters from houses and 25 meters from a classified road. Other than that for a couple of pigs I don't think there is legislation so long as it's a field not a back garden they are in.

If anyone knows differently I'd like to hear also as the girls arrive in a few days!
