Pygmy goats and dogs

Hi,

We are seriously considering adopting two castrated male pygmy goats shortly. We have thought about this for a while and are trying to do lots of research in the meantime.

We currently have three dogs, and have tried to reasearch how the dogs and goats are likely to get on, but cannot find much information. Obviously we wont know for sure until they are here, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this?

The kids will be 12 weeks old, so we are hoping they will be young enough to accept the dogs. The goats will have their own enclosure, but the dogs will be able to roam around it.

Thanks for any help.

When we lived in Inverness with our first two pygmies we took them out for walks along the Caledonian Canal - Q 'what kind of dogs are these ? ' A 'Viking dogs' . The older of the two was very protective of her young niece and if approaching dogs looked aggressive she would rear up in preparation for a Glasgow handshake ! Not even a Staffie phased her. Anyway, I would say if the introductions are done properly then respectful co-habitation should be possible but each species should have a place of safety available at all times.
With 1 Angora and now 6 pygmy goats, Jacob & Icelandic sheep, chooks, a cat and my very own Duracell bunny aka BH !
