Misty whelped!!
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:28:12 pm »
Six beautiful working cocker puppies.  First one delivered on the sofa just as i was going to bed last night.  I didn't realise she was in labour.  All six delivered in 3 and a half hours.  I have 2 choccies, 2 blacks with white paws, a tricolor and a black.

how do i know if they are getting enough milk?  They are latching and seem to be feeding but milk didnt come out when i squeezed,  i don't know if i was doing it right.

I am a very nervous owner.  Misty has eaten a lot, drunk and been to the loo

Xx

I've never whelped a bitch so can offer no advice or guidance, but just wanted to say, "Congratulations!"  :excited:

And, when you've time, piccies would be most welcome ;)  :eyelashes: :eyelashes: :eyelashes:

You will soon hear them if they aren't eating! As long as at feeding time you see them all latched on feeding happily, steadily gaining weightl - I weigh every day from birth, they lose a little then start gaining, any that are a little smaller get pushed out I top up feed. Day after birth I pop them in the car for a vet check up and jab for mum to contract her uterus/ make sure no retained placentas (I get the vet to come out to the car) Check pups for clefts etc.
I also start the puppy plan, rubbing ears, feet, turning upside down etc, later on as ears start to open up I start playing them firework audios etc

Congratulations !

If you pinch the skin gently, if it spring s straight back down they're fine, if it doesn't go straight back they are dehydrated. Hope that makes sense....

Congratulations to you both.

They should pass wee or poo to show they are feeding and as been said, put weight on. Rounded tummies and sleeping contently.

I am such a nervous owner!
The puppy pads arrived but I'm returning them because they don't have a CE mark on them (Fleabay purchase) and I'm not burning my house down when I'm at work or roasting the puppies.

The puppies seem to be feeding because lots of wee marks on the blankets.  I'm at changing blankets every 24 hours having stocked up at "primarni" beforehand and having raided my supply of aircraft sleeping blankets..

Misty is eating well but not drinking enough.  I've made up blended oats and water however and she has had about a pint of that in the last 12 hours (it tastes very milky).  Does anyone know how much milk in pints she is supposed to get through?

I'm afraid the really rubbish photo's are too big for this post but, really, you are missing nothing they are, as I said, really rubbish.... basically some back legs and shiny fur.

I moved some of the bedding out (she was on 2 dog beds because the puppies risk falling behind.. She gave me a look about that but I've left her with one thin mattress.

:fc: for the next few days....|I have to go into the office tomorrow but she is doing everything without me anyway!

Puppy pads do not fall under a "CE" directive so cannot be CE marked. If you see puppy pads with a CE mark, I would be more concerned.
There is not really any nead to feed Misty milk. SHe will drink water as and when she needs it.
Oh and congratulations :-)

These are the electric heat pads, not house training pads.

i am not feeding milk.  I am giving oats blended in water which comes out milky, because she doesnt seem to br drinking enough.
