2 Dorking cockerels in need of their own girls
« on: March 01, 2015, 06:17:20 pm »
Hi  I offered these in the autumn ...to stunning silence.  But here's hoping now spring is in the air ... :fc:

They are pure bred Dorkings silver greys and very handsome, no trouble ....but I have 4 hens and 3 boys and soon things will start getting nasty.

I haven't the heart for coq au vin ....feeble I know.

We are in Northumberland not far from Newcastle or Morpeth

Cockerels are generally difficult to give away, because people only really need one.
I did need a SG Dorking cockerel last year and couldn't get hold of one so I got some hatching eggs instead. We ended up with 5 boys. I also offered them for free as they are a rare breed and usually quite difficult to get hold of, but had no takers. We are now eating our way through them! I can say that they taste absolutely fantastic!

Unfortunately we are very good at breeding cockerels .... >:(

The advantage of the Dorkings is after several hatchings I now know how to sex the chicks .....and it might be tough to dispose of them at a day old ....but a great deal easier than when they are big.

We have eaten quite a few of them .....and when I say we ...I mean coq au vin has been my husbands star turn for dinner parties....nobody complains ...but I just don't like chicken, smell of it cooking makes me retch.

Will keep my fingers crossed someone would like 1 or 2

Worry about just advertising locally because they are big boys and I don't think cock fighting is dead in darkest Ashington and places.

cock fighting is on the up everywhere :/
I too have taken to dispatching early although this year am set to eat them.
If I were to have another breed it would be the Dorking! unfortunately full up right now. Are there any Dorking specific FB pages?
