I continue to like Geoff Hamilton's 'Successful Organic Gardening'.  It's not new and it's not glossy, but Geoff was immensely practical and down to earth.  He has great ideas for low cost, make it yourself bits and bobs and his presentation is clear and straightforward.

There are loads of other glossy organic gardening books, but you pay for the shine not the content  :garden:

If you are in Scotland there is a really good book (it's semi-glossy I would say) by Kenneth Cox and Caroline Beaton - "Fruit and Vegetables for Scotland". Has got good advice on what varieties grow up here...

If you are serious about organic then I don't think you can beat Bob flowerdew's Organic bible.
Another one I like for being practical is Carol Klein - grow your own veg journal.
The HDRA also has the encyclopaedia of organic gardening.
