Loving our Shetlands
« on: March 22, 2015, 09:20:09 pm »
I really think buying these wee girls was one of the best things I've ever done.  I bought them for my sons, William and Angus.  William loves them, but is equally interested in other stuff (he was spreading fertiliser this afternoon when I took these photos) but Angus, who will be 3 on Tuesday, has really bonded with them, I am sure they adore him just as much as he loves them.

Tomorrow is our official lambing start day, and the Shetlands are sharing a section of shed with 20 Kerry Hills and 30 Lairg-type Cheviots, as soon as Angus goes in, the Shetlands all force their way through to get to him, it is a delight to see.  Really hoping one will lamb on his birthday!

Now that is what keeping sheep is all about!  Beautiful pictures.

I have a photo of my son when he was about 3 (now 17) sat on the sofa with 1 dog and 1 orphan lamb, all watching the tele together!

Thanks for putting those photos up, put a big smile on my face  :sheep:

I am grinning all over my face  ;D

I'm sure you've sent a copy of these pics to jaykay?  (As I don't think she comes on here any more.)

Chad (who I think is the son of the ewe in your first pic - the one I called Smiler) was put out on 23rd Oct, so his lambs could have started coming on Thursday just gone.  I don't think the first few will be long :o  These two are 3/4 Shetland, the one on the left has some BFL, the one on the right some Castlemilk Moorit.  I have taken pics of my ewe from jaykay, black Anya Tatty Ears (who I've renamed Tatiana - Tatty Anya, lol, Anya for short ;)) - but being jet black she's not very photogenic, at least not to someone with my (lack of) skill.

I have of course not encouraged Chad to get pally, but Anya and her last year's daughter Carrie are both quick enough to come up for a sneaky digestive ;).  Anya had a bit of a reaction to her Heptavac, and clearly much appreciated the personal attention - it's made her even more friendly.

I too am delighted with my Shetlands.  :hugsheep:  So much so I am even thinking about chasing up their pedigree papers and registering the pedigree offspring...  :o

And that's before I even get my hands on their fleeces!  :spin: :excited:

I do hope you have a spectacular lambing with them, and that you get at least one lambing on Angus' birthday :)

jaykay used to describe Shetland lambs as kittens - bouncy fluffy lively bundles of fun.  Can't wait for mine!
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Sally, do you have an email for jaykay you could message me?  I sent her a message on here last night to tell her about the pictures, but she's not been on here this year.

I don't think that is Chad's mum in the pics, although they are VERY alike!  I think Chad's mum is Quality, who is actually Angus's very best friend and favourite, she always spots and comes to him first, but she isn't as pushy as Buffy who is in the pictures, so she backs off when Buffy arrives on the scene.

Pleased you are enjoying yours too, they are fab wee things.
