Assessing Your Potential: Farm Woodland Management & Creation, Wednesday 4th February, 12.30 – 4pm, Bankhead Farm, near Broxburn, West Lothian
A practical on-farm afternoon looking at options, issues and potential business benefits of managing farm woodlands. The event will include discussions on timber & woodfuel production, maintaining woodland landscape features, and managing plant health issues. Cattle, Kale & Other Forage Crops, Tuesday 17th February, 11.30am – 3pm, Selkirk
A practical on-farm visit looking at the key requirements for out wintering cattle on forage crops. Discussing site selection, value of soil analysis, when and how to establish, crop/variety selection, calculating the feed area and stocking rates. Speakers include James Bretherton, Agscope and Iain Eadie, Germinal Seeds Ltd.  Free of charge to farmers and land managers and £40.00 plus VAT to others. Booking is required as spaces are limited. Scottish Soils Conference, Organised by Scottish Organic Forum, Tuesday 10th March, United Auctions Ltd, Stirling
A day focusing on the most vital asset on your farm: SOIL. Covering the state of our soils, knowing what you’ve got and how to increase its productivity, including practical perspectives from farmers and growers. The afternoon includes a BYO soil hands on session. Speakers include Charlie Morgan, GrassMaster; Prof Christine Watson, SRUC and Steven Jack, Nessgro. Cost to attend is £20 plus VAT. Booking is essential so lunch can be provided.
