Scottish National Poultry Show 17th/ 18th January
« on: January 03, 2015, 04:07:41 pm »
Held at Lanark Market. There will be selling pens as well.

I finally got my finger out and managed to enter this year. Don't think I've entered for nearly 10 years! I entered 7 chooks, now having a slight panic that they aren't in good enough condition....

Hi Mays,

Know what you mean about threatening to moult, I am sure my cockerel has 1 less tail feather from last night to this morning  >:(

Not staying the night, close enough to come home. You taking the lorry and staying over?

Entries closed on the 23rd, it's a real nightmare trying to get them in with the Christmas post, and with the busy rush up to Christmas.

I like the idea of going. Not been before, Is it a good day out? It's a long way for me to go with my baby in tow - is it worth five hours driving?

5 hours of driving is quite a lot! It depends on what you are going for or what you want to see really. It's the biggest show in Scotland, so you will see more chickens in one place than you've ever seen before, and it's a great chance to meet people. However, as people drift around, it's also difficult to sometimes find someone you want to speak to.

I would think about when you want to go. Judging is done on Saturday, and that means you can't always look at all the birds, if the judge is still in that aisle. But equally, they box up the birds starting about 2pm on Sunday, so if you want to go on Sunday, it would have to be morning. Saturday, it might be better to go late morning, and hopefully you'll get to see most of the birds in the afternoon.

The selling pens will be open the whole time, take boxes with you if you think you might buy something. Prices can be high, as they tend to be show quality birds.

with over 3500 poultry ducks and geese 350plates of eggs plus 160selling pens . its well worth a visit but as chairman i may be biased.plus its only 3 quid to get in how much more value for money can you get.
