if you are interested in life in the great depression and what it was like having to be self sufficient in the war have a read of this.
follow some tales of bobhenstra. ignore everything else if you want.but the stories are v interesting.just randomly came across this when looking for something else

I had a quick look about the rest of the forum too, which was, er, somewhat alternative as well  ;)

Does anybody know any other good sources of this type of old-time wisdom (but prererrably without the tinfoil hats and conspiracy theories)?   ;D
