As a beekeeper I have looked at the beehaus with interest and they are attractive and seemingly well designed. ( I'd willingly accept one on free trial
). They appear to be be virtually indestructible. However, there are several points which decided me against them
1. They are very expensive - double the cost of a new WBC which effectively doubles set up costs and nulifies any profit for two or three years.
2. The brood box is large, in my view, too large for anything other than a very powerful colony.
3. A large amount of honey will but into stores rather than up in the supers.
4. They are very obvious -fine if the colony is in your garden -mine are away from home and theft or vandalism is likely.
I have had hives vandalised twice in 2007 which cost me one colony and the loss of production on another so I am very careful now.
I think that like the chicken houses they are designed to be used by people who are just doing it 'for pretty'
Having said that I know of no case where foxy has got into an omlet which is more than can be said for my poor little chuks last year.
