Shetlands in with a texel tup
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:26:29 pm »
i currently only have about 10 ewes most of which are shetlands , i had put the tup with 2 mules and 3 big shetlands but my small shetlands and there lambs from may/june time got in with them for 4-5 days , will the tup have touched the lambs or will they be okay ?

i know there isnt much i can do now but couldnt catch them to seperate them again

He might, you could ask the vet to estrumate them

I took it from your post you were concerned they had been covered and will be in lamb, estrumate is an injection that would abort an early pregnancy

You could have problems lambing if you overfeed the shetlands producing huge lambs.
Otherwise should be ok but you need to keep an eye on them at lambing.

To avoid having over big lambs get them scanned and don't feed the ones with singles

Yes most definitely! If they are cycling he will have got them! Proper care while pregnant and you shouldnt have any problems, just make sure you feed them enough so they grow otherwise you will end up with little mousey ewes next year!
