Christmas moan needed
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:45:40 pm »
Ok it seems as though we need a christmas groan moan thread............
What with celluitis and something rubbish happening to little blue

Generally we had a lovely family day here but my moans include
1. going to pick up chicken food on Christmas Eve in a snow storm and OH reversing into a gridlocked queue in the car park. I tried to cheer him up by saying at least we had been sensible enough to have fully comp insurance.........Guess what? we hadn't renewed our address with the insurance company ...........ba***rd sack of layers pellets cost us £1300
2. The ice got into the shower and split the insides - need a new shower

Apart from that it was lovely

ooooh.......sorry to hear about your expensive accident.

As you will have seen, my week before Christmas did not go well, what with the loss of my cat, goat kid, and then the pygmy nanny, and now the other  goat kid.  I will be glad to see the end of 2009, and hopefully the new year will bring us better luck.  I do hope so.

Sorry to hear about the woes. I guess we all have Christmas moans and groans. The pipe burst on our outside tap on Christmas Eve and we still can't use it, which means filling up the goats water buckets in the house, and carrying them up to the goatshed. Also Alex's car has now decided it doesn't like the cold and has stopped working (and its our 4x4 which helps us get out in the snow!).

Anyway, as are washing machine is in the garage we had to  Waite for it to defrost before doing all the washing, I have a guest leaving tomorrow but WILL NOT do any washing as my mum always said it was bad luck to wash on New Years Day!! anyone else have superstitions about New Year?

Well my bad stuff this year centred round my drainage system and my pups.  Not quite as bad as Sandy & Steve with the pups - one still born and another with a large umbilical hernia.  My electricity fusebox tripped in May, that was fine, got it on again but the previous owner omitted to tell me that I needed to reset the drainage pump if the electrics went off for any reason - duh! - result was it damaged one of the pumps - non submersible ones installed underground - how clever is that - NOT!!!  Anyway, repaired that and actually got the insurance to pay for most of it.  Then the electricity went off again but this time I checked the pump trip switch lights and they hadn't come on so I assumed it was OK - wrong!  A week later I discovered both pumps were beyond repair.  I couldn't go back to the insurance company so had a £2000 bill - but it's a brand new submersible pump with an early alert beacon and sealed damp proof electrics. So fingers crossed that the 'man' is as good as his word.  He must be good as he has just landed a colossal job in Libya - he says he'll never forget the little people like me though because we are the reason he got where he is now.  So good on you, Brian and Ross of Cleartek Services http://www.cleartek.co.uk/  My heroes!

and something rubbish happening to little blue

Here goes then...
My o/h as you may know had a breakdown due to lots of sh*tty stuff (which hasnt gone away, just adds to the daily sh*t!) resulting in him being to all intents and purposes agrophobic.  He has had very little support from docs (and not worked in ages so you can imagine how good our finances are), and is just beginning to get around town in the car (though wont get out of the car).
At the beginning of december, he was coming to meet me and some idiot delivery van scraped the side of the car then reversed into him, smashing all the back end in.  he managed to swap details and everything, and the insurance agreed to arrange repair.
we had no car for a week, then a hire (which i couldnt drive, as a 'new driver') then we were snowed in, so that was abit of a waste of time!  but as the other driver hadnt reported it, we've had to pay the excess up front, on Christmas eve when we got ours back.    After loads of phone calls, and bull from various places.

my father in law needs alot of care in the normal scheme of things, but the day our car was collected, he had a stroke.
he seemed to improve until just before christmas when he was very poorly so we've been up all night with him, one of has had to stay with him all of the time.  despite his refusals, I called an ambulance on Boxing day and he had an operation to repair a perforated ulcer. his blood pressure is all over the place, and theyve found cysts on his kidneys.  he is convinced he's going to die.
My husband cannot visit and so guess who goes?!

All this, and a poorly pig, a goat in season, an elderly dog whos missing his master, and some very very muddy chickens.  and a house and animal sheds in need of repair and a bank sendin threatening letters on a regular basis

I went to give blood yesterday, just for a cuppa and a lie down!

But as a generally optimistic person, I'll shut up now and just get on with it... thanks for reading   x

Oh little Blue..it never rains but it pours, we sometimes think things are deliberate don't we? Think about how worse it could be, nature again and in winter we get m ore accidents and more illness. My father in law had a stroke the day I had to have an emergency Cesar, some 30+years ago, a lot of similar things happened to me then but here I am now, if you go through the issues one by one and rationalise, we cannot change some things so not worth trying to, concentrate on what you can change and focus on things getting better, we often grow stronger from a tragedy and also we learn to deal with other issues from it....we are all wishing you and your father in law well I am sure.

Well, I can  relate to the house and animal sheds in need of repair, and the lack of moneyso sorry about  your father in law, and hope he recovers soon.  It must be hard for both you and your OH having to cope with his unable to go out, and this puts a lot of pressure on you.I do hope 2010  brings better luck for you all.

Well. I wish they'd sit their own bloody test first!   >:(

Little Blue - sending you a big hug from Scotland - I've had my share of s**t thrown at me too - twice widowed due to accidents - one RTA and one climbing.  Hope you keep staying positive because you are the strong tree your o/h needs to lean on.  Just ;et off steam on here - we all understand.  Good vibes for 2010.
Oops - just remembered my birds and kennel dogs haven't been fed or let out to pee yet!  Must go! :-* :-* :-*

I've been thinking back over my life (as I always tend to do at new year) and yeah, I've definately had my share of knocks. But haven't we all ?
Would I change any of it ? Probably not, if truth be told. Our pasts make us who we are and give us the experience and drive to keep going.
Nelson Mandella said "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall" and that's how I try to think and live my life now.
Here's hoping 2010 is happier and more prosperous for us all.

Not sure how 2010 is going to go, we have had no water since yesterday morning, and no signs yet of it returning, still trying to find out the cause(we have our own supply via well)
Today I was checking on and feeding our menagerie of pets and one of the baby rabbits who was perfectly healthy last night looks as if it has had some sort of seisure/stroke, really don't know what to do with the little thing(not a breeder- found out too late that the two girls we got were actually girl and boy), just trying at the mo to keep it warm and safe from harm. The other three look ok as does mum. I really hope things get better. Really hope everyone on here also sees things improve too all the best for 2010
