Aaarrgh - TOO much snow !
« on: December 27, 2009, 10:02:31 am »
For the last week we've just had snow on top of snow on top of snow !
Must still have about 12-14 inches lying on the ground, causing chaos with the roads etc - I thought that was going to be the main problem - I was WRONG ! :(
Woke up this morning to let the dog out and the first thing I saw was the roof of an old hay shed which partially covers our garden - lying IN our garden ! Luckily the only damage seems to be to the frame of the kids trampolene. But it seems the very old corrugated iron roof just couldn't cope with the weight of all the snow :o :o :o
It's not ALL bad, we were planning to take the roof down and replace it in the summer anyway, but because of the location and the fact the access was going to be tricky to say the least it was going to be a nightmare job - seems mother nature has decided to do it for us! I'll get a photo posted as soon as I get over the shock ;)

LOL! I'm over it already, that WAS quick ! Won't be so much fun once the snow finally goes and we've got to get out and get it all cleaned up though  :(

We had heavy snow about 7am this morning but that has turned now to heavy rain. What a mess!

no rain here yet, a few miles west from James. Only lots of snow very slowly thawing. Doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere...If it all freezes over again in a few hours, it's trouble! :&>

Yes, its thawing over here at Clacks too.  Everything is sloughing off the roofs.  Just hope it doesn't freeze up as I have to take the pups for tehir jabs on Tuesday!

how is west lothian looking?

I'm typing this on the ferry from Belfast to Stranraer and will be in scotland in an hour, couple of hours drive to get home - am I gonna be able to get in/out of my drive way?

Got up this morning to find my yearling and miniture shetland standing in an area of about 12ft square at the field gate, the rest of the field which is on a hill was just pure ice, could hardly walk on it myself. Thankfully they were at the gate and we managed to get them into the stables.
The pigs could hardly move either so we put down a couple of bales of straw in their pen and that seemed to help, just praying now for no more snow or ice. Roll on next Monday when they are due at the abattoir, of course that is assuming that I can get there

That depends! I was last on your road on friday when it was ok. But the problem we have with our drive is that the snow plough and the lorries keep dumping snow at the edge of it! I've got the van in and out every day though. The car gave up the ghost as far as snow is concerned on Wednesday and hasn't been anywhere since!

Lol- funny I plan on shovelling snow tomorrow too!

We also had an incident like HappyHippy, albiet a bit smaller. One of the chicken runs had a couple of sheets of corrugated iron over it to help keep off the rain and snow. It came down this morning, as the weight of the snow was also too much for it. Have to do running reapirs to the fence tomorrow because of it.

according to the forecast we won't be able to get out before Wednesday...no gritting lorry was seen or heard yesterday or today. :&>
