Another refugee from another place. Based in West Wales, keeping pigs, sheep and chickens and a conservation/restoration builder by trade, specialising in lime-work, green timber and stonemasonry.

Nope, Rosemary, must be Clackmannan!  But not quite so codl now - gone up from minus 1 this morning to 8 plus this evening!  My heating's been put off! (just for a wee bit as I was too warm!)

welcome from south uist.although im just above wales at the moment on a boat nice calm weather. shame your so far away need a stone mason to help renovate an old cottage next year might search you out for some advice nearer the time.

I looked it up, but I can't remember what it was so it couldn't have been very important or interesting

Calcimining is white wash (the stuff you paint on plaster)
As in calcium carbonate (lime)

just in case anyone's interested!   (Sad scientist!)
