Thanks for your replies.
Really good news. The vet asked me to bring him home yesterday morning to see if I could get him to eat or drink anything in his home environment. Had no luck all day, then my OH came home with his kennel mate at tea time and he got up and even ate a spoonful of fish! The vets said I could keep him overnight but had to bring him back in if he wasn't drinking by morning. I went downstairs at 5am and my boy was there tail wagging and fussy

I gave him some water and he had a drink and then an hour or so later he has eaten some breakfast and is trotting about
All my dogs get harvest mites this time every year (you need to look really carefully between their toes and up into the 'toe-hole' bit to see them), and never had a problem, but Juke did have quite a bad infestation up to his elbows. Where the vets have shaved his arms for his drips are loads of tiny bites.
We were at the Sandringham Estate this weekend which is known for it (but we have been this time every year with no problems before).
This is not just a probelm at Sandringham though and I would recommend the following (I AM NOT A VET!!!)
Regularly check for harvest mites and spray between toes with Frontline Spray from vets.
Symptoms the affected dogs (including mine) had were
- very lethargic
- stretchy- stretching back legs out
- drooling (not all dogs but mine was profuse)
- being sick
- really odd stance. Slightly tucked up with really protruding ribcage
- diarrhoea (mine didn't get this yuntil later)
I would not recommend waiting, but get to the vets asap and tell them that you suspect SCI.
The vets we went to put on a fluid drip and gave anti sickness injections and antibiotics.
We also went through his coat and sprayed all the harvest mites.
Last night at home I also gave him Loxicom
I hope this never happends to any of your dogs. I love this boy way too much and I really thought I was going to lose him.
which area were you
Sandringham
has the vet reported it?
I'm not sure but I will ask them
How are his kidneys holding up?
good (a little too good actually, he wee'd all the way home in my car :-) This is why the drip to hydrate them is sooo important
is he insured?
no
