Christmas Presents

This year I decided to give my children something for the garden. My first born and his wife started getting into growing veg last year so I have bought them a strawberry planter which will save space, also a book on growing veg and problems. Middle son has a small garden which is full of kids playthings and as he lives in Wales he and his wife will get money to chose what they would like for their garden. Youngest son lives just outside Aberdeen and he also has a small garden so I have bought them a potato planter. His wife said she had wished they had more space to grow things so this should suit them. makes a change from the usual things I give them each year.

Thats a good idea - giving people garden related gifts. I know a lot of people who would like to grown their own, but are short on space,  Beats the usual socks, smellies and chocolates I think!!

I think so too. I am just trying to decide whether to give my sister a year's membership to the Heritage seed library. And I've been wanting to get my husband a mushroom log for years. This might well be the year.

Any ideas for my two grown up nephews - they, including wives and baby daughters have both just moved to new houses with gardens.  Neither really into growing veg but both wives would have a go I think.  One Cambridgeshire, the other Central Scotland

Annie, how about a few raspberry canes or blackberry (thornless)? Good time to buy and plant them. Easily maintained and healthy and fun for the children.

Annie, have a look at the 'Rocket Gardens' website. bit pricey for me but you could borrow ideas - esentially they sell a garden 'in a box' ie a theme of plants (flowers, veg, fruit etc)
I'm sure with abit of research you could find similar schemes if you don't want to do it yourself at the garden centre!
