I sold one of my ponies at the weekend and made a right fool of myself by bursting into tears. Lady was very understanding but she must have thought I was a bit of a nutter.  He was my black gelding and very special to myself and my granddaughter. She had out grown him and he was not getting enough work so putting on the weight.  Now he has a new little girl to love and ride him and I am sure he will not miss me as much as I miss him.  I have two more going to their new homes in a couple of weeks, a 3 year old and a stallion so think its time I bought myself a project to work on for the next couple of years. Lucky for me I have a very understanding OH who knows that sitting around doing very little will never be my thing.

I know the feeling. They leave a big hole, but at least ponies are going to lovely new homes to be cherished.

If you're looking for a new project, I have a gorgeous 6 year old Fell gelding for sale if you'd be interested?

I was sold him as a ride and drive out of the field as repayment for a livery debt, but it turns out he is more than "green" when ridden: I suspect he has been used only as a lead-rein pony for kids to sit on, which he does well, but he doesn't really understand aids and sadly I don't really have the time or facilities to bring him on.  I haven't tried driving him yet, but I've heard from more than one source that the chap who broke him to drive is very good.  He's a stunning looker and has shown in hand as a youngster.  I think he'd be a show-stopper in ridden classes!

I am the same with all my animals ...find it so hard to part with them.  Could be why I have a field crammed full of Dales and Fell ponies ...  My friend sold one of her horses, then on the day the people came for him, she burst into tears and howled that much, the people reluctantly left horseless.  She said she felt awful about letting them down, but when it came to it, she just could not let him go.;  At least you were brave enough to go through with it.

The lady who bought Rory sent me pictures through facebook yesterday of her wee girl grooming and riding . They brought joy into my day to see her brushing him then out on a little hack. He looks so content. Anya is only 4 and had a welsh pony but she was scared of it. Rory will stand for ages being groomed and is so gentle with little kids that already Anya looks forward to her little ride every day. I do wish more breeders would geld their colts and run them on as there is a market for good ridden Shetlands. Rory went on Shetlandpony.com on the Sunday  and was sold by the Saturday with 4 more people interested on coming to see him if the 1st lady did not buy him. I am going to look at a Welsh section C tonight to give me something to bring on over the next couple of years.
