Hello everyone,

Well its been a good few weeks since I was here.  Lots to tell, all in good time. The main subject is my lovely lovely ' er indoors. In the space of around 4 months she has gone from a fit fast walker, to someone who can barely walk. Stairs are just possible, as long as there are not too many. Walking slowly she has no problems. No pain at night either.

It all started back in July when she fell in the street for no apparent reason. Her legs just gave way. From then on her walking became slower and slower. To walk fast meant intense pain.  I finally managed to get her to the doctors this week. He thought it was likely to be artery problems, furred up etc. On Thursday I phoned the hospital and got through to a specialist. He saw her the next morning, but after a scan, said she was all clear.

So now, its more tests. ME has been mentioned, as well as all sorts of other things.

Sorry to bang on about it but its the only real important news I have !

If anyone else has heard of similar waling problems I would love to hear about it.

I hope you are all well, and that I have not missed anything too exciting.

I have one or two topics in my head, so will type them up here soon.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Good to have you back  ;D
I'm sorry to hear about your wife  :( Don't have any experience of this, but my gut feeling is that she may have hurt her back when she fell which could now be compressing nerves and causung problems walking  ???
It might be worth making an appointment with an osteopath who could possibly help (although she may not have any back pain, it could still cause a problem) the other thing I would highly recommend is Reiki - I know it sounds all new age and others may be sceptical, but if she goes with an open mind - it's amazing the difference it can make. I have lost all faith in the NHS due to problems with my daughter and tried these 'alternative' therapies - Reiki really has an impact.
Good luck  :hshoe: and thinking of you both.

Kevin I am so sorry about your wife, I suffer from a similar problem, mines due to a disc in my back.  It can be very embarrassing falling down for no reason.  People either rush to your assistance, or look away thinking you are drunk.  Hope OH problem is soon diagnosed and cured.

hello Kev,
nice to see you back mate..
I had similar happenings to your wife after I had my smash years ago . Mine was due to a broken back though . All of a sudden my legs were just not there ...or so it felt ....splat !!! hit the floor like a sack of sh...er spuds...
Thankfully it did ease over about a 3 year period . However , due to the smash I ended up with fused vertebrae , and every now and then they shift apart a touch ...splat ....hit the floor again....depending on which one it is that shifts .
So it does sound like it could be a back problem your OH has !!! A disc just putting pressure on the spinal chord can do it , and it can be almost impossible to see....I have had 25 years of this sort of thing and they still don't know what it is for sure.
I was 3 years or so walking very very slowly after the smash , it was murder. I hope they sort OH's problems out sooner.
My left knee also gives way now and then .. no warning just wallop ...exit stage left ....rather embarrassing picking yourself up off the floor ...as you say HM .. people tend to think you are a drunk , even more so with a bloke I suppose !!

cheers

Hi kev, sorry to hear your misses is poorly - sounds to me like a disc problem or nerve in her back.
A friend of mine has been told her has 'hypermobility' ie her joints are too flexible meaning her pelvis slipped out of line straining her back.  Might be something to look into?
Gentle swimming might help, as well as Reiki (dont have much faith in osteopaths)

Good luck! :-*

Hello Kevin,

Was just about to email you again as you were to be back two weeks ago - sorry ot hear your partner is not well.

I have similar problems - since my cancer operation I am sure I have M.E. or C.F.S. but my doctor does not believe in
]it unless there is a test to prove it.

I fell down the stairs a few weeks back and am in physio therapy twice a week for fractured clavicle and injury to my
pectoral major, its very painful, the bruising of all my left side and backside has gone thank god, and I'm just about able
to get out and about but have not been able to drive the car since the accident as the tablets that they are giving me
for the pain ( include codeine) are making me very dissy - so on stemetil too.!!!  :o ::)

So sympathy from me for your other half - kinda know what she is going through and sen her my best wishes.

Really pleased you are back, missed you lots, and hope that you can catch yp and give us your usual banter and sense
of humour as well as the update on your lifes journey - are you still planning to buy a place in Scotland??
Rosemary and Dan are looking to sell their place, so let all your friends know.

Lotsa love  Julie x

Nice to have you back but so sorry your wife is not doing too well....amazing how many poorly TASers there are!!!!! I soon cease up if I sit down for long and am still bad at uphill stuff although I know I would be OK if I lost weight and took more exercise.....simple. I know if I had an office job my waling would be very poor. Maybe she has circulation problems, I wounder if one of those stimulating foot and leg thing's would help, seen them advertised and thought I could do with one but walking is bestist really!!! Fingers crossed, just a temp hitch :D

Hi again, Kev, good to have you back.  Sorry to hear about Mrs Kev (does she have a name other than 'er indoors, OH, the wife etc?).  I used to fall down very readily when I was first married.  They discovered I had very low blood pressure.  So perhaps worth having that checked, but it doesn't explain the worsening of her movement.  It does sound like spinal nerves trapped though.  You really need to harp on to your GP about it.  Good luck

Sorry to hear about your wife's back/ leg problem
Does she have any other symptoms?
If so it's a good idea to mention it all to the GP at the same time as even the most random thing could be clue that would help  GP make a dagnosis.
I had a terrible back probelm a few years ago. It took me to a cranio sacral therapist who was amazing. Bit whachky bu amazing.

Forgot to mention, my leg problems come and go but are due to a twist in the base of my spine, its not too bad but was due to me being born with a dislocated hip and not having it repaired until I was 50, so all those years of walking "lob sided" have caused the problem, I also get some tingling from trapped nerves. As others have suggested, it may be a problem more typical in women, causing bone degeneration....Sorry....sounds like we all want a go at diagnosis!!!!! A bit early for my brain to work properly too!!

Thanks for all your kind words and advice. Er indoors, otherwise known as Laura , is going to see another specialist tomorrow. He will look at spine etc. It could well be a spinal problem or something out of line. So thanks to all of you for that info.

I will let you know the outcome.

Also I will post up one of my rambles about life over here very soon.

Cheers Kevin

I am sorry to hear of your wifes problem, it is obviously getting both of you down. We're all behind you on this board, and hope a successful recovery comes soon. It helps to hear all the amazing setbacks people are overcoming, quite humbling really. Makes you grateful for what you have. The fighting spirit of the tas ers (?) is what keeps us going towards our goals. good luck and wish you both better soon.
